The NY Department of Agriculture recommends that any consumers who purchased raw milk from Charles B. Curtiss dba Willow Marsh Farm immediately dispose of it and call the farm at (518) 288-3347.
Company: Willow Marsh Farm, NY
The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of harmful bacteria.
“It is important to note that raw milk does not provide the protection of pasteurization. Pasteurization is a process that heats milk to a specific temperature for a specific amount of time,” according to a notice from the Department.
A sample of the milk collected by an inspector from the Department was discovered to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. On Jan. 30, the producer was notified of a preliminary positive test result. Further laboratory testing, completed on Feb. 4 confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
If you suspect you have become ill from contaminated oysters, please submit a report here. The recall includes frozen, shucked, breaded, post-harvest processed and oysters for the half-shell market.
Harvest Area Impacted: Area 3 is located east of Lake Borgne, north of Eloi Bay, and includes Chandeleur Islands and surrounding marshes.
The Louisiana Department of Health has closed a molluscan shellfish harvesting area in Area 3 and ordered a recall of all oysters harvested from that area since Jan. 10 because of an outbreak of norovirus-like illnesses.
The health department is coordinating with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to ensure no oysters are harvested from these waters during the closure. Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Abraham, M.D., and LDH Secretary Michael Harrington signed the closure order which took effect Feb. 4. The Area 3 harvesting area is expected to be closed for at least 21 days.
