It addressed incidents it investigated that were linked to FDA-regulated human food in the 2024 calendar year. FDA managed several high-profile investigations throughout 2024, including a large outbreak of E. coli linked to carrots, a historical outbreak of illnesses associated with cheese that had stumped investigators since 2018, and a novel adverse events series linked to Diamond Shruumz-Brand Chocolate bars, cones, and gummies.
March 13, 2026 | USDA issues FSIS Foodborne Illness Outbreak Investigations, Fiscal Year 2025:
CDC notified FSIS of five (71%) of the outbreaks and these outbreaks involved approximately 250 illnesses and 140 hospitalizations. Of the seven outbreaks investigated by FSIS in FY 2025, one was caused by Salmonella (serotype Enteritidis), two by E. coli O157:H7, and four by Listeria monocytogenes. Beef was of interest in two outbreaks, ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products in one outbreak, multi-ingredient foods in two outbreaks, and multiple products were investigated in two outbreaks in FY 2025 (Figure 2).
